Best of Kenya and Tanzania - 12 days

Explore some of Kenya and Tanzania’s most popular parks, rich with wildlife and spectacular landscapes. Travel to Kenya’s Amboseli National Park to see its wonderful elephant herds and marvel at mighty Kilimanjaro.  Then travel to Tanzania, to scenic Lake Manyara National Park, with its great variety of habitats, and the dramatic views of the Great Rift escarpment.  Descend into Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact caldera in the world, to search for predators and prey. Explore the vast plains and countless animals of the Serengeti, and follow the ancient migratory routes of millions of animals over the border, to Kenya’s premier wildlife park, Maasai Mara.





Day 1
Arrive Nairobi

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is free to relax or, if time permits, enjoy some sightseeing.

Just south of the equator, Nairobi has attracted world attention as the center of big-game safaris.  Shopping in Nairobi varies from African clothing and craft shops to open-air markets. There are also excellent museums, offering insights into the fauna, culture and history of Kenya.

Day 2 
Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast drive to Amboseli National Park for lunch.
After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive.

Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya's oldest and most popular parks, home to large herds of elephants, lion, cheetah, leopard, giraffe and the ever present hippos in the large emerald green swamps.   Birding is also a great attraction, with over 425 species recorded.  With the majestic backdrop of snow-capped Mt Kilimanjaro in neighboring Tanzania, it is also one of Kenya's most scenic parks. During your safari, take time out to climb Observation Hill which has superb views of this beautiful mountain.

Day 3
Amboseli National Park

Today you will have morning and afternoon game drives. Meals at your lodge/camp.

Day 4
Amboseli to Manyara

This morning drive to the Namanga border (between Kenya and Tanzania). After immigrations/customs, change vehicles and drive to Arusha in time for lunch at a hotel.  In the afternoon, you will continue to Lake Manyara National Park for a late game drive.

Situated enroute to and from Ngorongoro and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park is a compact game park with no fewer than five different vegetation zones and a vast variety of wildlife.  It is excellent for birdwatching and a good area to find elephant, flamingo, as well as the potential excitement of spotting a legendary Lake Manyara tree-climbing lion.

Day 5 
Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Crater

This morning you will have a game drive in Manyara. After lunch at your lodge, you will drive to Ngorongoro.

Ngorongoro Crater, also known as the Eighth Wonder of the World, is the largest intact crater in the world. The crater floor, enclosed in walls over 2000 ft. high, and covered in highland forest, is a spectacular barrier encircling the wildlife that  live here- a true Garden of Eden.  The crater is home to some 30,000 animals including the "Big Five" of buffalo, elephant, rhino, lion and leopard, as well as zebra, wildebeest and many other species.

Day 6
Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, descend into the crater for game drives.  Enjoy a picnic lunch.  In the afternoon you will visit a Maasai Village.

Day 7
Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti

Depart Ngorongoro after breakfast and drive to the Serengeti. Lunch is at the lodge. In the afternoon, enjoy an afternoon game drive.

Arguably the most magnificent park in Africa, the Serengeti has vast landscapes and prolific amounts of game. Covering an area of almost 6000 square miles, an area comparable to the state of Connecticut, the Serengeti hosts a fantastically diverse ecosystem. The main attraction is the world-renowned Great Migration, when 1.5 million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelle and other game that follow close behind make their way across vast open grassland plains, stalked by the inevitable predators who make the most of the feast close at hand. The Serengeti is a must for any visitor to Tanzania

Day 8

Morning and afternoon game drives with meals at the lodge.

Day 9 
Serengeti to Nairobi to Maasai Mara Game Reserve

This morning you will be transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Kilimanjaro airport (with picnic lunch). On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your scheduled flight to Nairobi, where you will connect to the scheduled flight to Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
Enjoy an afternoon game drive.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: Mara S. Club /Kichwa Tembo or similar  

With breathtaking vistas and a great diversity and abundance of wildlife,  the Masai Mara is not to be missed. There are rolling grasslands, distant hills, scattered acacia woodlands and riverine bush. Elephants browse among the large herds of wildebeest and topi, gazelle, eland and buffalo. The plains offer a rich variety of food for the dominant predators: lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah.  In the Mara River, hippos submerge to snort and grumble while crocodiles sunbathe on the riverbanks. Around July to September, depending on the rains, the Mara is host to the famous wildebeest migration, one of the few remaining mass migrations of mammals in the world. During this time, there are over a million wildebeest here, the major focus for predators, and dramas unfold before your eyes.

The Great Migration, which moves between Kenya and Tanzania, is usually here between July and October, although sightings can never be guaranteed.

Day 10 -11
Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Enjoy two full days in the Mara, with morning and afternoon game drives.
In the morning, there is an optional Balloon Excursion (at extra cost).

Day 12
Maasai Mara to Nairobi & Depart

This morning you will be transferred to the airstrip for the scheduled flight to Nairobi. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the Eka Hotel where dayrooms are reserved.

Afternoon at your leisure, with lunch and dinner on your own.

In the evening you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight home.
