The appeal of Tarangire National Park lies not only in the herds of migrating animals but also in the beauty of the landscape with its grand baobabs and acacia trees. During the dry season the animals migrate from as far north as Lake Natron to drink from Tarangire’s permanent water source, the Tarangire River, which runs through the center of the park, providing thirsty animals with a year-round supply of water. The result is a great abundance and variety of wildlife, including wildebeest, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra, eland, elephant, hartebeest, buffalo and fringe-eared oryx, as well as an exceptional elephant population.  You can also enjoy birdwatching at the edge of green-tinged swamps - the park is home to the highest recorded number of breeding bird species of any habitat in the world.

Tarangire National Park
Enjoy an early breakfast before venturing out into Tarangire National Park by 4WD vehicle for a full day of game drives.

Day 4:
Tarangire/Lake Manyara National Park/ Ngorongoro Crater
Travel overland to the small but wildlife-rich Lake Manyara National Park — a park of many different habitats, including grasslands, forests, marshlands, scrub and parklands punctuated with acacia trees. Have your camera ready while looking for lions and large elephant herds.

Stop for a farm-fresh lunch at Gibb’s Farm, a sprawling property with a local artist-in-residence program.  After lunch, continue to Ngorongoro Crater, and settle in to your lodge.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge OR Ngorongoro Lemala

Ngorongoro, a 2,000-foot-deep crater created by the collapsed cone of a volcano, contains a hidden world of wildlife.  The floor of the crater is only 100 square miles, but it is home to 30,000 animals -zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo, eland, hartebeest, wart hog, rhino and  elephant, to name just a few, along with a high concentration of predators, including  leopard and some of the finest black-maned lions in Africa.  Search for the rare and elusive black rhinoceros, one of Africa’s most endangered species, who is also a resident here.  You may see thousands of flamingos, fluttering and shimmering like a pink heat haze on the soda lake in the middle of the crater.  A beautiful highland forest covers the sheer sides of the caldera, a spectacular barrier encircling and protecting the roaming plains wildlife on the flat crater floor, and a magnificent backdrop for your photos.

Day 5:
Ngorongoro Crater

Descend into the Crater for morning game drives. After a picnic lunch, visit a Maasai village and gain cultural insight into the lifestyle of these nomadic cattle herders. The Maasai have peacefully coexisted with wildlife here since the 17th century.

Overnight: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge   OR  Ngorongoro Lemala

Day 6:

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: Serengeti Sopa Lodge  OR Sanctuary Kusini

The Serengeti National Park, a vast 10,000-square-mile region, an area comparable to the state of Connecticut, is arguably the most famous national park in the world.  Serengeti takes its name from the Maasai word meaning "endless plain".  Its abundance of game is legendary, including lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, giraffes, elephant, and topi, as well as the annual, seasonal Great Migration, when 1.5 million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelle and other game that follow close behind make their way across the plains, stalked by the inevitable predators who make the most of the feast close at hand.

Day 7:
Serengeti National Park

Today you will have the entire day in the park, with morning and afternoon game drives.  After breakfast, watch as early morning activities begin: hippos return to the water after foraging for food in the dark; elephants rustle through trees in search of breakfast; and lions amble back from a hunt. During an afternoon game drive, watch for cheetahs, crocodiles and leopards. This evening, join fellow travelers for a festive farewell dinner.
