Grand Botswana - 11 days

Visit the grandest of Botswana's wilderness areas, renowned for their scenic splendour and abundant wildlife. Venture deep into the heart of the extraordinary Okavango Delta, with its network of secluded islands, crystal clear channels and deep lagoons that shelter families of hippos.  From this watery maze, follow the continent's mighty rivers deep into the Selinda Reserve, known for its high concentration of lion and African wild dog.  Then, explore one of the top wilderness reserves in the world, Chobe National Park, home to Africa's largest single concentration of elephant.   Activities include day and night game drives, guided walks, boating, and riding in a mekoro (dugout canoe).  Finally, stand in awe of magnificent Victoria Falls or, if you are adventurous enough, enjoy as many thrilling activities as you can stand, including bungee jumping, white-water rafting and even  walk with lions!. This is a luxury safari, flying between camps on light aircraft, staying in 5-star accommodations and enjoying fine cuisine. 

Day 1

Upon arrival at Maun Airport you will be met by a member from our team who will assist you onto your light aircraft flight to Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp or Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge – the choice is all yours!

A maze of sparkling lagoons, meandering channels and overgrown islands teeming with wildlife, the Okavango Delta likes like a sparkling jewel at the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Known as “the river that never finds the sea”, crystal clear channels spread over the thirstlands of the Kalahari with their papyrus-fringed banks and fertile floating islands. Adapted for a life in and out of the water, the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga are found in this watery wilderness. Lion, leopard, cheetah and African wild dog, share the floodplains with large herds of elephant and buffalo. Hippos inhabit the deeper channels and lagoons, while honey badgers can be seen in broad daylight. Tall termite mounts are homes for families of dwarf and banded mongoose.

Spend two nights at Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp. Accommodation is in an East African-style safari tent, raised on a wooden platform with a private veranda overlooking a floodplain. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, emergency medical evacuation insurance, laundry, daily lodge activities and park fees.

Adventures include meandering along the floodplains of the Delta by mokoro (dugout canoe), exploring the deeper channels by motor boat, nature walks accompanied by a professional guide or tracking game in an open 4x4-safari vehicle, in the mopane forests and open grasslands. The added highlight of an early evening, spotlit game drive assures you of an unforgettable wildlife experience in Botswana.

Alternatively…Spend two nights at  Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge. Accommodation is in an African-inspired cottage, with all windows covered in gauze to maximise views of the forest. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, emergency medical evacuation insurance, laundry, daily lodge activities and park fees.
Activities includes twice-daily game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicle, bush walks, boating excursions in the Delta, birdwatching and stargazing. For relaxation there is a hammock, which sways in the trees on the upper deck of the guest area and a shaded plunge pool.

Day 3 & 4

Today you will be flown by light aircraft to Pom Pom Airstrip, from where you can choose to stay in either Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge or Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp.

Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, emergency medical evacuation insurance, laundry, daily lodge activities and park fees.

Adventures include an irresistible combination of water and wildlife on twice-daily game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, boating and mokoro (dugout canoe) adventures in the Delta and guided walks. A scenic helicopter flight and transfers are available at an additional cost.

Alternatively…Spend two nights at Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp. Accommodation is in a sleek ensuite safari tent, which boasts a romantic sala that offers breathtaking views over the channel. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, emergency medical evacuation insurance, laundry, daily lodge activities and park fees.

Adventures include a combination of water and wildlife on twice-daily game drives in open 4 x 4 safari vehicles, guided walks, spotlit night game drives, boating and mokoro (dugout canoe) adventures in the Delta, guided walks and excellent birdwatching. A scenic helicopter flight and transfers are available at an additional cost.

Day 5 & 6

Today you will be flown by light aircraft to Selinda Airstrip where you will be met and transferred to Zarafa Camp.

The Selinda Reserve is a 320 000 acre (129 500 hectare) private wildlife sanctuary in northern Botswana. The famous Selinda Spillway, which links the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti and Kwando wetlands and rivers, meanders through the area. Abundant wildlife is attracted to the vast floodplains and grasslands along the river, with large numbers of elephant and vast herds of buffalo congregating around the Zibadianja Lagoon in the dry winters. Predator viewing is also exceptional, including lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah. Indulge for 2 nights at Zarafa Camp in a large, luxurious marquis-style tent with ensuite bathroom with copper bath, indoor and al fresco shower. Your stay includes all meals, local brand drinks, activities, park fees and laundry. Adventures include morning, afternoon and night game drives as well as short guided bush walks.

Day 7 & 8

Today you will be flown, by light aircraft, to Kasane Airport where you will be met by a representative from our team who will drive you to Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero.
Further north from the Okavango Delta lies Chobe National Park, encompassing 11 000km2 of wilderness, bordered in the north by the beautiful Chobe River, and buffered on all sides by wildlife management areas and forest reserves allowing for the free movement of game. Known as one of the top wilderness reserves in the world and home to the largest single concentration of elephant, Chobe National Park is a wildlife enthusiast’s dream. Throughout the year, herds of buffalo and elephant can be seen drinking at the river’s edge, with their numbers swelling into hundreds and thousands during the dry season. Two region specific antelope, the puku and the Chobe bushbuck can not be seen anywhere in Botswana except on the Chobe riverfront.
Spend two nights at Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero. Accommodation is in a luxury twin bedded cottage, with a modern freestanding bath, indoor and al fresco shower, terrace and private garden with a hammock overlooking the magnificent Chobe River. Your stay includes meals, beverages (except premium brands), game viewing activities, park fees and laundry.

Adventures include game drives led by professional guides, motorised boat safaris, sundowner cruises on the Chobe River and fishing excursions (pre-booking is advised).

Day 9 & 10

Today you will be driven to Kasane where a vehicle will be waiting to take you to The Elephant Camp– clearing customs and immigration en route.
Victoria Falls is one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles. Declared a World Heritage Site, the Falls are the stuff of legends, romance and myth. Long before the Scottish missionary and explorer, Dr David Livingstone ‘discovered’ the Falls in 1855, the local Batonga people had named them Mosi-oa-Tunya, ‘the smoke that thunders’ Today, the village rightly claims the title of Adrenaline Capital of Africa, home to a seemingly endless variety of adventure sports from bungee jumping to canoeing and white water rafting.

Spend two nights at The Elephant Camp. Accommodation is in a spacious suite with private deck, plunge pool and a magnificent view of the Victoria Falls. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, emergency medical evacuation insurance and laundry. 

At the Victoria Falls, you can enjoy various adventures such as a helicopter flight over the Falls, bungee jumping, white water rafting and scenic tours of Victoria Falls and surrounding areas – these adventures are at an additional cost.

Day 11

After a mouth-watering breakfast, we wave a fond farewell as you are driven to Victoria Falls Airport.
